This was a small project I did recently, but one that just made me happy to work on. This woman Kelly was planning to propose to her girlfriend who had always said she wanted to see her dance. Kelly found my website and emailed me her idea. We spoke briefly on the phone and then she sent me the song.
Since a proposal is an intimate act, I didn't want my movement style be obvious, so I didn't prepare much before we met. With gigs like this I also have no idea how skilled the subject will be, so I try to arrive with some basic ideas that can be made more or less difficult as needed. Mostly, I listened to the song and familiarized myself with the lyrics. From there we worked together to come up with movement that she felt comfortable with, and that helped tell the story of the song and what it meant to them as a couple.
Kelly then practiced for a few weeks on her own, filmed it in the studio at her apartment complex, and showed it as a special gift following the proposal. She was so sweet to work with and excited to be dancing which made my job fun and easy.
